Flooring Installation for Wrexham University’s EEOC with Wynne Construction

Oakwill Flooring were proud to work with Wynne Construction on behalf of Wrexham University to deliver the full flooring package for the brand-new Enterprise Engineering & Optics Centre (EEOC) – a modern facility designed to support cutting-edge research and teaching.

Working with Wynne Construction

This was our first project working alongside Wynne Construction. Our role was to install a mix of resilient vinyl, carpet tiles, safety flooring, and entrance matting, carefully selected to suit the demands of different areas within the building.

Preparation and Installation

Before any flooring was installed, our team completed a full preparation process. We buffed the existing concrete slabs, applied an epoxy liquid damp-proof membrane, gritty primer, and Tremco screed to achieve a perfectly smooth, stable base.

Across stairwells and corridors, we also fitted Gradus Elite nosings (EAR1140 with ELINS40 inserts) for safety and longevity.

Flooring Solutions by Space

Different spaces within the EEOC required tailored flooring products to meet functional and aesthetic needs:

Entrances: Forbo Coral Brush matting in Asphalt Grey to trap dirt and moisture.
Corridors & Stairwells: Forbo Marmoleum Marbled Fresco in Asteroid and Comet, with cap-and-cove detailingfor a seamless, hygienic finish.
Wet Areas (WCs): Forbo Surestep safety vinyl in Blue Concrete, providing slip resistance and easy maintenance.
Labs & Technical Rooms:
- Forbo Sphera vinyl in Dark Neutral Grey for comms and engineering spaces.
- Renewable Energy Lab with Forbo Surestep Original in Smoke and Forbo Eternal in Taupe for zoned functionality.
- Industry Automation Lab finished in Forbo Allura Puzzle LVT.
Social & Teaching Spaces: Forbo Tessera Layout and Outline carpet tiles in Alloy across learning zones, with Shaw Haven Hones carpet tiles in Truffle for the meeting room.
